Many have asked me if I would be participating in the “Million Nurse March” in DC that’s being planned for May. The short answer is, no.
While I think all of these issues that are being addressed are of great importance, I question where our priorities are in this moment in history. At a time when nurses are sitting in silent apathy while their colleagues are being bullied, shamed, ridiculed and FIRED for making what SHOULD be a personal medical decision, I don’t believe that our salaries or even safe patient ratios, which are issues that have LONG plagued our industry, should be the primary focus.
As nurses, if we are not taking a strong stand for basic human rights, autonomy, and INFORMED consent for our patients, yet get fired up to march ONLY when it directly threatens our own finances - this is cringe-worthy at best, in my opinion. I absolutely reject the idea of salary caps in a free market, but instead of begging for the overlords of this broken and oppressive “sickcare” system to make changes we all know full well won’t happen, why not try to be a part of building an alternative system that actually focuses on true, patient-centered care? A system that respects and values it’s nurses for the professionals we are and always have been.
Let’s stop having a victim mentality and just say ENOUGH. I believe that we should walk away, permanently; bringing our knowledge, skills, and passion along with us. Let this current system burn to the ground, because this is exactly what needs to happen to it. Let’s become a part of the SOLUTION to everything that is wrong in healthcare.
More on the topic of an alternative healthcare system in an upcoming post, but I wanted to make clear my reasons for not participating.
Thank you all so much for your continued support.

Why wait for May to March? The voice of the people are crying out now! The trucking industry has all eyes and ears on them. I say we join them against mandates. I don't know about all my other nursing colleges but I for one am so frustrated that In order to do my job I had to be vaccinated. It's not a vaccine question, but of one rules. Who are they to tell me what I have to inject in my body!? In order to do my job. The only way "to Crush Covid" is to quit letting the government mandate how to live OUR lives.
Agree.
